Kingfisher trails
During this monsoon season, it is time to celebrate with the kingfishers along the banks of the majestic Periyar River, in and around the beautiful Kadamakkudy Islands.
Almost every day, I walk along the banks of the Periyar—both in the mornings and evenings—with my camera in hand. Over countless visits, I have come to know exactly where to spot these stunning birds in their natural habitat.
The ideal time to watch them in the morning is between 7:00 AM and 8:30 AM. In the afternoon, the best time is between 3:00 PM and 4:30 PM.
Watching a kingfisher dive with precision, emerging with its catch, is a sight that never fails to amaze. During the monsoon, the river comes alive, and so do these brilliant flashes of blue, orange, and white.
