Holidaying with holiness….

I am not sure whether the content of this post suites a travelblog or not, and at the same time the alarming rate of arrogance, racist slurs, road rage, airport rage, cheating, drukenness, drug abuse, shop lifting, littering etc justifies the positioning of this content in kadamakudy Island’s travelblog.

Not even one task is completed so far in my todolist. Have only another couple of hours to go before it is close of business for the day. That is applicable when one work from office. The flexibility of work from home gives me the freedom to write when the urge to write strikes. So, instead of getting back to my todolist to compensate for delays, I am busy blogging about my lazy cycling through the familiar roads, which was not in the agenda at all.

Quick cycling jaunts helps to socialize beyond the social media. While having chai and neyyappam at a local hotel (fondly called as chaya kada – the place where tea is sold) I met an old acquaintance, who is living in the neighbourhood. We struck a casual conversation and when I switched to active listening stemming out of empathy, it ended up as a serious conversation which lasted almost an hour. This person shared some of his life related problems which included his suicidal tendencies. Was he serious? Could be. Conversations which followed revolved around counting the blessings, grateful living, getting help from qualified doctors etc. There is no assurance, only hope.

Did I save a life?. Not sure. Yes, I gave him some of my time. Hopefully good sense will prevail. Thanks to the lazy cycling and the intense rains which forced us to slow down a bit. Everyone around are carrying one cross or the other…Just that thought is enough to be compassionate. Eventhough Kerala is known as God’s own country, very often it is limited to some. Let self respect and respect for others reflect in all our transactions, especially when we are holidaying. By lifting up the mood of others we actually liftup our own moods, take note – the reverse is also applicable. Let us holiday with some holiness.
