Mouth watering spicy prawns

At the Kadamakudy toddy shop in the middle of the Pokkali fields

There are two toddy shops at Kadamakudy. One is at the middle of the central road on the valia Kadamakudy and the second one in the middle of the Pokkali fields near the Kadamakudy temple. This photograph is captured at the latter one. These toddy shops are called Kallu shappu in Malayalam and the curry served in the shappu is generally called ‘shappu curry’. They are generally made very spicy intended to make people drink more toddy. When we went there, we were served with prawns roast with coconut slices in it which is called ‘ chemmeen roast’ and kallummakai fry. Kallumma Kai is also known as kakka Irachi which means meat from shell. These toddy shops are run in small makeshift places as permanent construction is not allowed due to environmental reasons. Generally eating food from here is safe and clean. Iam not that sure about the toddy as the general supply of the toddy is much lower than the consumption.
