A lesson in customer service.

It was 4pm. I was with someone with immense interest in gardening. She was busy buying pots and plants at a nearby nursery. By 4 pm I must have a cup of tea. That is mandatory. Thanks to the corporate ceremonies of evening tea and snacks which I got addicted to over the years. I must have a tea and I got into the lousy looking, one and only chai shop nearby. The chai maker approached me and started asking several questions like;

Can I put sugar? When I said yes, the next question – how much?. How much kaduppam (strong, medium, low). Followed by questions about my name, job, purpose of visit etc.

After all these, he gave me a cup of tea which was not that great! And I did not complain. I was really impressed by his attitude to a customer who might have given him just a couple of rupees margin. He subtly taught me a lesson in customer service…respect.
